Week 9: Hungry for Results?

Congratulations on making it to week nine of the Transform Your PhysIQ Challenge! By now you’ve likely made some meaningful lifestyle changes that have resulted in both pounds and inches lost. You are hopefully feeling better, more energetic, and maybe even a little bit more confident. If this is not the case, stick with it! The results will come, just be patient.

For those of you that have yet to see any major physical transformations, it might have to do with how you are managing your hunger. For example, many of us are guilty of skipping breakfast. We wake up late, race to get ready and rush to get out the door; it’s a good day if we eat anything before lunch.

The problem with this scenario is that, come noon, you are ravenous and your ability to control what and how much you eat has become weak. You end up going out to lunch with coworkers and instead of ordering your usual soup and salad, you decide to get a burger and fries. Though this not a problem if it happens occasionally, it starts to add up when it becomes an everyday thing—especially if you are trying to manage your weight.

For best results, we recommend all things in moderation. It’s true that this approach won’t help you shed weight overnight, but have you ever heard of the saying “slow and steady wins the race”? This saying holds true when it comes to weight loss. Those that are most successful at achieving and maintaining their goal weight take things one step at a time—no restrictive diets or endless training sessions at the gym. Come out of the gates sprinting (literally and figuratively) and it’s highly likely that you’ll be giving up before you reach the finish line.

To better manage your hunger, we recommend choosing an eating style that allows you to indulge in the foods you love. With any diet, you can incorporate the 90:10 rule; eat healthy 90 percent of the time and let yourself indulge 10 percent of the time. This will help to keep you sane during the weight loss process.
